Mixpost alternative

The open-source Mixpost alternative

Mixpost and GrowSocialelion are both self-hostable social media managers with MCP support. The structural difference is what free means: Mixpost's free MIT Lite publishes to 3 networks and holds AI, approvals, inbox and API behind a $299 one-time Pro license, while GrowSocialelion's entire app, every built feature included, is AGPL-3.0 and free to run.

Fair credit

Both sides of the ledger

What Mixpost does well

One-time pricing with a perpetual fallback license: pay $299 once, keep running forever, updates for a year. (source, 2026-08-27)

Pro includes a genuine unified inbox for mentions and comments, plus approval workflows and an AI assistant. (source, 2026-08-27)

MCP support: the site documents controlling Mixpost with AI assistants. (source, 2026-08-27)

Where Mixpost stops

No hosted option at all. Mixpost runs only on a server you operate, via Docker or as a Laravel package. (source, 2026-08-27)

The free Lite tier publishes to 3 of their 12 platforms. AI, approvals, the inbox and the API all start at the $299 Pro license. (source, 2026-08-27)

Only the Lite version is open source (MIT). Pro and Enterprise, where most features live, are closed commercial licenses. (source, 2026-08-27)

Honesty

Who should stay with Mixpost

If you need Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or LinkedIn publishing now, Mixpost Pro has them live and we do not yet. $299 once for 12 working networks is a reasonable price for that head start.

If you run an agency that wants white-label and client billing built in, Mixpost Enterprise is designed for exactly that and we have nothing comparable.

If one-time pricing is the point for you on principle, Mixpost is one of the few tools in this market that offers it.

Mixpost's model is honest and worth understanding before you compare: it is a commercial product with an open-source loss leader. The MIT-licensed Lite covers Facebook Pages, Mastodon and X. The other nine platforms, the AI assistant, the approval workflow, the unified inbox and the API are in Pro, a closed-source license at $299 one time. That is a fair deal, and for some teams a good one.

Our model draws the line elsewhere. There is no Lite and no Pro: the app is one codebase under the AGPL, and self-hosting it costs nothing whether you want one network or all eight that publish today. The trade you accept in exchange is younger software with a shorter network list, and a hosted option that has not launched yet, exactly the same trade Mixpost asks nobody to make because hosted Mixpost does not exist at all.

Questions

Asked before switching

Is Mixpost open source?

Partly. The Lite version is MIT-licensed on GitHub. Pro and Enterprise, which contain most features, are paid commercial licenses. GrowSocialelion's entire app is AGPL-3.0 with no closed tier.

Does Mixpost have a cloud version?

No. As of 2026-08-27 Mixpost is self-hosted only: you run it via Docker or as a Laravel package on your own server. GrowSocialelion is self-hosted today too, with a hosted version in the works.

What does Mixpost cost?

Lite is free for 3 networks. Pro is $299 one time with a year of updates, Enterprise $1,199. The perpetual fallback license means the software keeps running after updates lapse.

Which is better for AI-agent workflows?

Both document MCP support. The difference is the gate: in GrowSocialelion every agent action passes an approval mode you set per action type, and that gate is in the free app, not a paid tier.

Try the part that is already free

The hosted app is still pre-launch, so we will not pretend there is a signup. What runs today: the open-source app on your own server, and 500+ free tools that need no account, including character counters whose every limit carries a source, something Mixpost's tools do not offer.
