Fair credit

Both sides of the ledger

What Sprout Social does well

Twelve networks, the widest list among the closed suites, including Snapchat, WhatsApp, Reddit, Threads and Bluesky alongside the majors. (source, 2026-08-27)

A 30-day free trial with no credit card required, double the length most competitors offer. (source, 2026-08-27)

Built for customer care at scale: the Smart Inbox gains sentiment analysis, helpdesk integrations and message spike alerts on Advanced, and the platform connects to Salesforce and HubSpot. (source, 2026-08-27)

Where Sprout Social stops

Standard costs $199 per seat per month and still caps at 5 social profiles. Unlimited profiles start at Professional, $299 per seat. (source, 2026-08-27)

Listening and Premium Analytics are paid add-ons on top of the plan price, available from Standard up, with no public price listed. (source, 2026-08-27)

The API, sentiment in the Smart Inbox, helpdesk integrations and team productivity reports all sit on Advanced at $399 per seat per month. (source, 2026-08-27)

Closed source and per-seat SaaS. A team of three on Standard pays $597 a month before any add-on, and there is no self-host option. (source, 2026-08-27)

Honesty

Who should stay with Sprout Social

If social is a customer-care channel for you, stay. Sprout's sentiment inbox, helpdesk integrations, message spike alerts and Salesforce connection are a support stack we do not have.

If your channels are Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube or Snapchat, they publish in Sprout today and are planned, not live, in our catalog.

If leadership expects Sprout-grade reporting and premium analytics dashboards, that depth is Sprout's product and nothing here replaces it.

Sprout Social is the tool mid-market social teams graduate into, and the polish is real: twelve networks, a care-grade inbox with sentiment, reporting leadership will read, Salesforce on the other end. The price of that polish is the steepest seat math in the category. Standard is $199 per seat per month and still holds you to five profiles; the inbox features that define the product arrive at $399; listening costs extra on top of all of it, at a price the page does not print.

GrowSocialelion sells none of that by the seat, because it sells none of it at all: the app is AGPL-3.0 and free to run, connections are not metered, and the approval workflow enterprise buyers pay for is the default operating mode. The trade is coverage. Sprout publishes to twelve networks today and we publish to eight, with the majors still in our catalog as planned work.
