The open-source RecurPost alternative
GrowSocialelion is an open-source RecurPost alternative: AGPL-3.0, free to self-host, with an approval-gated AI agent that writes new posts rather than circulating libraries. RecurPost starts at $9 a month and keeps evergreen posts on repeating schedules across 10 networks, but approvals, workspaces and white-label reports sit on its $79 Agency plan.

| Open source | No, and no self-hosting | AGPL-3.0, self-host the whole app free |

Both sides of the ledger
What RecurPost does well
Recurring content libraries are the core: approved evergreen posts stay in circulation on repeating schedules, with per-platform customization of one source post before it publishes. (source, 2026-08-27)
A documented public API at developers.recurpost.com covers connecting accounts, adding posts to libraries, immediate and scheduled publishing, history and AI generation, authenticated by an API key from account settings. (source, 2026-08-27)
Entry is cheap and the trial is clean: $9 a month for the Starter plan, a 14-day trial with no credit card, and AI content and image generation included on every plan. (source, 2026-08-27)
Where RecurPost stops
Approval workflow, client workspaces and white-label reports all sit on the Agency plan at $79 a month; the $9 and $25 plans have none of the three. (source, 2026-08-27)
Every plan caps daily posts per account: 10 a day on Starter, 20 on Personal, 80 on Agency. (source, 2026-08-27)
Growth is metered: extra social accounts cost $4 a month each and extra team members $20 a month each. (source, 2026-08-27)
Closed source and SaaS only; there is no self-host option and no free plan after the 14-day trial. (source, 2026-08-27)
Who should stay with RecurPost
If keeping a library of evergreen posts in circulation is your strategy, stay. Recurring schedules are RecurPost's namesake feature, and GrowSocialelion deliberately does not recycle; the agent drafts new posts instead.
If you publish to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok or Google Business Profile, RecurPost reaches them today. We overlap only on X and Bluesky so far; the rest of their ten networks sit in our researched catalog.
If you run an agency that needs client workspaces and white-label reports now, their $79 Agency plan bundles both, and our hosted version has not launched.
RecurPost is the cheapest serious entry into evergreen recycling: $9 a month buys two accounts and a recurring library that keeps approved posts in circulation without manual republishing. It also does something SocialBee and MeetEdgar do not, publishing a real developer API at developers.recurpost.com. The plan ladder is where it bites. Approval workflow, client workspaces and white-label reports all wait at the $79 Agency tier, every tier caps posts per account per day, and each extra account or seat adds to the bill.
GrowSocialelion inverts that ladder. Approval gating is not the top-tier feature, it is the default operating mode of the free app: the agent proposes each action and you decide, per action type, whether a human signs off. There are no daily caps and no per-account fees, because the AGPL code runs on your own server. The honest limit runs the other way: we have no recurring libraries, and of RecurPost's ten networks we share only X and Bluesky today.
Asked before switching
How much does RecurPost cost compared to GrowSocialelion?
As of 2026-08-27, RecurPost runs $9 a month (Starter, 2 accounts), $25 (Personal, 5 accounts) or $79 (Agency, 20 accounts) billed monthly, with two months free on yearly billing, plus $4 per extra account and $20 per extra team member. GrowSocialelion is free to self-host under the AGPL with no per-account fees; its hosted version is pre-launch.
Does RecurPost have an API?
Yes. RecurPost documents a public API at developers.recurpost.com covering account connection, library posts, publishing, history and AI generation, using an API key from account settings. GrowSocialelion ships MCP from day 0, so agents call the same tools the UI does rather than a separate surface.
Does RecurPost have approval workflows?
Yes, on the Agency plan at $79 a month, where clients review, comment and approve scheduled content through shareable links. In GrowSocialelion, approval is the default mode of the whole product and lives in the free app: every agent action passes a gate you configure as human, semi-auto or autopilot.
What does GrowSocialelion not do that RecurPost does?
Recurring content libraries that keep evergreen posts in circulation, plus white-label client reports. Those are RecurPost's specialty. Our agent writes new content from live research instead, and every action is approval-gated.
