The open-source Typefully alternative
GrowSocialelion is an open-source alternative to Typefully: AGPL-3.0, free to self-host, publishing to 8 networks with per-network analytics that mark unreported metrics honestly. Typefully remains the nicer pure writing surface for X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon, but its analytics cover X only and its Creator tier bills $99 annually with no monthly option.

Typefully vs GrowSocialelion, on the record
| Typefully | GrowSocialelion | |
|---|---|---|
| AI content | Writing assistant and rewrite tools; more included usage on paid tiers | The agent drafts per network, in your voice, from live research |
| Approvals | Draft comments, teams, roles on Business, $18 per social set | Every agent action is approval-gated: human, semi-auto or autopilot, per action type |
| Analytics | X only, by their own pricing table | Per-network metrics where the network reports them; 'not reported' where it does not, never a fake zero |
| Agent access | API and MCP on all plans, including free | MCP from day 0; the same publish tool the UI uses |
| Open source | No, and no self-hosting | AGPL-3.0, self-host the whole app free |
We build GrowSocialelion, so read the table knowing that. Every Typefully fact on this page comes from Typefully's own pages, checked 2026-08-27. If a price changed since, their page wins.
Both sides of the ledger
What Typefully does well
The editor is the product, and it shows: thread composing, rewrite and improve, AI image descriptions, a clean writing surface. (source, 2026-08-27)
API and MCP access on every plan, including free, with documented integrations for Claude, ChatGPT, Notion, Slack, Raycast and Zapier. Few competitors open agent access that far down the pricing ladder. (source, 2026-08-27)
X engagement tooling runs deep: scheduled retweets, automatic plugs, auto-DMs, thread finishers, X Communities support. (source, 2026-08-27)
Where Typefully stops
Analytics cover X only. The pricing table's analytics section is literally titled 'X Analytics'; LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon get none. (source, 2026-08-27)
The Creator tier bills annually only: $99 up front, no monthly option, and it stays capped at 1 social set and 1 user. (source, 2026-08-27)
Five networks, all text-first. No Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or Pinterest, and the free plan allows 10 posts a month. (source, 2026-08-27)
Who should stay with Typefully
If X threads are the center of your work and you live in the composer, Typefully's editor and X engagement tools (plugs, auto-DMs, scheduled retweets) are ahead of anything we offer today.
If you want a polished hosted product now, Typefully's free plan starts in a browser with zero setup; our hosted version has not launched.
If your five networks are exactly their five, the narrower tool may fit better than the wider one.
Typefully deserves its reputation as the writer's scheduler. The editor is excellent, and opening API and MCP access on the free plan is a decision we respect, because it is the same bet we made: agents are a first-class interface. If your entire workflow is writing threads for X and echoing them to LinkedIn and Bluesky, Typefully is honed for exactly that.
The gaps appear at the edges of that honed shape. Analytics exist for X and nothing else, so four of their five networks fly blind. The Creator tier takes $99 up front, annually, for one social set and one user. And the code is closed, so none of it is yours to run. GrowSocialelion trades some editor polish for the opposite shape: 8 networks with per-network metrics, an approval gate on every agent action, and the whole app under the AGPL.
Asked before switching
Is Typefully free?
It has a permanent free plan: 10 posts a month, 1 social set, 1 user, with API and MCP access included. Paid tiers start at $99 a year (Creator, annual only) as of 2026-08-27. GrowSocialelion's whole app is free to self-host with no post caps of its own.
Does Typefully have analytics for LinkedIn or Bluesky?
No. Their pricing table offers analytics for X only. GrowSocialelion reports each network's own metrics and explicitly marks a metric 'not reported' when the network exposes none, instead of showing a zero.
Which networks does each cover?
Typefully: X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon. GrowSocialelion today: X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, Tumblr, Nostr, Lemmy and DEV, with 30 more researched in the catalog. LinkedIn and Threads are in our planned set, live in theirs.
Do both support AI agents?
Yes, and both do it properly: Typefully exposes API and MCP on all plans; GrowSocialelion ships MCP from day 0. The difference is the gate: our agent's actions pass a per-action approval mode, and the agent itself does the drafting and research, not only the posting.

Try the part that is already free
The hosted app is still pre-launch, so we will not pretend there is a signup. What runs today: the open-source app on your own server, and 500+ free tools that need no account, including character counters whose every limit carries a source, something Typefully's tools do not offer.
